Walking...

So finally, my little baby P is walking! She took about 6 steps in a row on Wednesday. I am so happy. Ironically, that morning we had an appointment with a physical therapist as recommended by her pediatrician. He thought he sensed a weakness in her left leg and suspected that could be the reason for her delay in walking. The therapist basically said she sensed no weakness in her leg. She said that she had all the skills she needed to walk and that it seemed to be a confidence issue.

Well, that night my husband had a bag of Cape Cod chips. Sarah saw them and was interested. She was standing and actually took the 6 or so steps toward him. He only let her have a tiny piece. But since then she has taken quite a few more steps. It really is exciting to watch her!

Issues

So...my baby girl is not yet walking. She is 15 months old. I am aware that babies have different timetables and some may not walk until much later than 15 months. However, P has been cruising holding onto furniture for quite some time now. I would say since about 11 months. She can stand up on her own and then sit down again, stand up again, etc. It concerns me that she is not walking because it seems she has mastered these other skills and is just not moving on. I addressed my concerns with her pediatrician during her 15 month well baby visit a couple of days ago. He initially told me not to worry, that some babies take their time. She was standing up and down and cruising in the exam room so he pointed out that she seems to be doing well. Then came time for the exam. During the exam he noted that she may have a weakness in her left leg. Once he said that, it immediately came to my mind that when I try to put her shoes or shorts on she often fights me with the right leg but almost never with the left. So, I do realize that there may be a difference there.

In any event the doctor suggested having her see a physical therapist. He said it may be nothing but it may be something. In the event that it is something it would be better to start therapy sooner rather than later. I agree. So, next week she will be going for an evaluation at the physical therapy office. They already e-mailed me some preliminary paper work to complete and it is a LOT! I am glad we are doing something. Hopefully it is nothing but if something is up I am glad she is going to be getting some help.

I had a dentist appointment yesterday and it turns out I need a root canal. Fun! Fun! I am going back in a couple of weeks for the root canal. Luckily it is covered 100% by our dental insurance. Turns out though that the crown is not completely covered so that will cost us about $315. Yikes! Not a good time for that either. M is going to need braces soon and my husbands company is downsizing and he most likely will be getting laid off sometime between October and January.

Not an abandoned blog yet...

We had a pretty good day today. My husband is currently acting in a play and he had two shows today. He had to be out of the house by 11:30 for those so the kids and I headed over to my mom's house to spend some time with her and my sister J. We had a blast. My mom made Italian subs. They were awesome, she toasts them in the oven and the cheese gets all oooey goooey yummy! She has made these since I was a kid and I still get excited to eat them. Although apparently not as excited as J. She was practically drooling waiting for them to be ready.

After we ate, my mom had set up a kiddie pool and a slip n slide for the kids to play in. J and I helped ourselves to the pool too. We mostly just hung out with P in the pool while M and L played on the slip n slide. J and I also took a few turns on the slip n slide and that was comedic. M thought he was a bad ass stunt man or something. He was going down like he was surfing and then falling at the very end. Him and L both have some red marks from hurling themselves onto dish soap covered plastic for practically two hours. P enjoyed just hanging out in the kiddie pool. She was putting her face in the water and then laughing. She also got quite a kick out of watching the bigger kids contort themselves on the slip n slide.

Anyway, to top off that fun, my sister had found the movie Teen Witch the other day. We used to watch this all the time as kids and were excited to see it again. It is funny now to see how cheesy that movie is but it was still entertaining. The best part has to be when the curly haired friend raps with those three guys. We were cracking up and I remember loving that part as a kid too.

Well, now we are home and the girls are in bed. M is hanging out in his room on the computer and I am just waiting for my husband to get home. Hope everyone had a wonderful day as well!

First Post

Hello there! I am N. This is my first time blogging. I have long contemplated starting a blog for various reasons and decided to actually do it. I am not sure what I find so intimidating about it but hopefully I can get the hang of it.

Well, here is a bit about my family. My husband and I have been married for 7 years. We have 3 children, M is 12, L is 5, and P is 1. We live in Florida and I am currently a stay at home mom. I am returning to school in August but haven't quite decided just what I want to be when I grow up. Well, besides a mom, I have always known that as long as I can remember. I figure I might as well get the balling rolling and start taking some classes.

About the kids...well, M is sensitive, smart, and sweet. He plays soccer and currently is getting all A's. He starts middle school in the fall which is exciting and nerve-racking all at the same time. I know he will do well though.

L is a sweet, caring girl but also a huge drama queen. She loves her brother and sister fiercely and is not afraid to tell you what she thinks.

P is also sweet, maybe the sweetest. So far she is the shy, quiet one. She likes to cuddle but also likes to play independently. She is 15 months old but not yet walking. Animals make her laugh and watching our dogs play is a favorite of hers.

Well, hopefully this will not become a lonely abandoned blog.
